PICASSO

1.  Personal Response:  Look at the artwork by Picasso.  Why do you think Melinda was so inspired and capitvated by it? Find some details in the art to discuss... What images and colors stand out to you.  What is your personal interpretation of the work? What does Melinda's connection to this work show?

2.  Read and respond to a classmates interpretation.  Do you agree with their interpretation? Be sure to state their name in this reaction.

  1. Nicolette Forgione Period 3 - I think Melinda was inspired and captivated by Picasso's artwork because she saw all the different shapes and designs which created a positive image in her head about her artwork and how she was struggling to express her feelings through it. I see a lot of bright colors in Picasso's artwork and I see that he makes little images that eventually turn out to create a bigger image so when you look at his work it makes you think about what's going on in the painting and what emotions he's trying to represent. I think his artwork is very clever and imaginative. Melinca's connection to his work shows that she wanted to paint like he did and the images and shapes in the painting inspired her so much that she decided to do that with her tree. I can't read and respond to a classmates interpretation because I'm the first comment lololol awkward.. So i'm just gonna read mine. I agree with my interpretation and it says my name up there ^^^^.

  2. Jackie Dalfonso period6- I think Melinda was inspired by Picaso, because she saw that Picaso had an unusual taste in his art, like her; she feels like an outcast, so she feels similar to him. She could relate to him. I see many shapes in the art, as if someone crumbled up paper and painted it. the art looks very 3D. My interpretation of the art is, that its very interesting, and it gets me wondering, is that really what picasso saw in us? He uses alot of wild colors in his art that really make it stand out. That could also be a reason that Melinda likes the art, because she sticks out at this moment, because she does not speak to anyone.

  3. Federica Balboni Period 4- I think Melinda was inspired and captivated by Picasso's artwork because you have to take a while to understand them and there message, just like Melinda. People judge her because of what she wears, likes and look likes but they don't take the time to take a closer look and to actually see what is behind her all, the truth behind her face. They are unusual looking pieces of art work, they are challenging to figure out but so is Melinda. Nothing in anyone's life is normal. There is a story behind those pieces of art there is a reason for it all just like there is a reason for Melinda to be who she is and like what she likes.

  4. Daniel Quinn Period 4- I think Melinda was inspired by Picasso is because of her intrest in art. Since this is something of her intrest, and Picasso is one of the best artists of all time, she was bound to get captivated by it. Many people who enjoy art feel the same way. Also the art is very abstract, there are countless off diffrent interpretations of Picasso's art work. What stands out for me is the colors. The colors make each other stand out, making the piece more vibrant. Melinda's connection to Picasso is the abstract art they use. You must interpret what you see in your own way, in both of their art Pieces.

  5. Carlye Uretta Period 4- I think Melinda was so inspired by Picasso's artwork because it takes a while for you to figure them out and when you actually take a while to do so you see the meaning behind the art, just like Melinda if everyone took a step back to figure Melinda out they'd understand whats happening and going on in her head and in her life. The parts of the artwork that stand out to me would be the different uses of shapes and the position of things that were placed on the artwork. I personally think the artwork is confusing but kind of interusting at the same time because of the different shapes and colors used to create the artwork. Melinda's connection to this artwork shows that she liked the message behind his art and how it caught her eye and that she decided to use it on her tree. I agree with Nicolette Forgione's because she states that she sees little images that then become bigger images and it made me think of a connection to Melinda because she's slowly working towards a big goal and thats speaking and over coming everything thats happening in her life at the moment.

  6. Melanie Straface period 6- I think Melinda is inspired and captivated by Picasso’s artwork because it is so different from everything she has ever seen. His artwork has a lot going on at once and is abstract which is why I think Melinda can relate to it. She likes it because the art is complex and difficult to follow just like her emotions at the moment. What stood out to me was his clever way of drawing because in order to understand his drawings you have to look very closely at all the details that were put in it. Just like Picassos artwork Melinda is being judged by the whole school because she called the cops at the party but they never actually had a chance to meet her and talk to her about that night.

  7. Kiana Comizio period 7-
I think Picasso's artwork captivates Melinda because it is inspiring to her.
Picasso's is very unique and different. Melinda also feels that she is different. Just like Picasso's art, you have to look deeply to understand Melinda. Picasso's art at first confused me but once I took more time to look at it I understand it a little more. To me it looks like a puzzle because there are bits and pieces scattered together to make up one painting. Melinda's connection to the work shows she appreciates his unique style because most people judge Melinda without taking the time to understand her. I agree with Carlye Uretta's reaction because I also think that if people took the time to really get to know Melinda they wouldn't negatively judge her. Instead they would understand that she is in pain and they would try to help her.

  8. Tory Tiburzi period 6- I think Melinda is inspired by Picasso because it shows an abstract point of view. For her tree design, all she is drawing now are straightforward trees, but the Picasso paintings show her not everything is shown right on the surface. That's why Picasso captivates Melinda. Melinda feels like one of Picassos paintings, abstract. Picasso wants you to think when you see his artwork. Which is what you have to do when you read about Melinda.

  9. Ariel Coonin period 6- I think that Melinda is inspired and captivated by Picasso because he jumbles up what he sees in an abstract way. He uses cubism to make the pictures seem unrelatable, but somewhat recognizable because you can see that his pictures are of people. The way Picasso drew and colored his pictures made him seem kind of dark and disconnected. Melinda can relate to Picasso because in her eyes the people of her high school are weird and she can't relate to them. She feels isolated and many of her thoughts are dark. It makes sense that she would relate to Picasso because you can tell that he put feelings behind his pictures and Melinda has so many feelings built up inside her. I agree with Kiana Comizio because I do think that Melinda is unique like Picasso and that you have to look deeply to understand Melinda just like the paintings.

  10. Emma LaBarbera Period 7- I believe that Melinda was so inspired and captivated by Picasso's artwork because she sees how Picasso pushes himself to think outside of the box and how he forces people to dig deeper to understand the real meaning of his pieces, and that's what Melinda needs to do to be able to build the strength to tell people about what happened at the party. The artwork holds a bigger meaning than what people think at first and it takes a while for people to understand the artwork, and thats very similar to Melinda because in order to know her, you have to understand what she's going through and to be able to figure that out, you have to dig deep and try to understand. My personal interpretation of the artwork is that Picasso's work is very geometrical and has a lot of little pieces to make up one whole piece and it is very difficult to understand the true meaning and there are many opinions and thoughts but only one is what Picasso was thinking while creating the piece. His work reminds me of Melinda because a lot of people who don't know what she's going through make untrue judgements about her, but only if you truly understand what she's going through will you understand why she acts a certain way.

I agree with Kiana because she said that Melinda is like Picasso's art in looking deeper to understand them.

i think melinda was inspired my the work because the work is really cool and amazing, Piscasso had a really amazing talent. the images make Piscasso look mysterious and you never know what he will do, the colors look in the middle of sad and happy and each one of his pieces are different. i think the work is truely amazing and very unique. Melindas connection to this work shows that she is very interested in Pissco and is trying to be like him. i agree with Melanies because she states that Piscasso was judged because of something they did and not everyone liked piscassos work so someone had to judge him, so both Melinda and Piscasso were judged because of something they did

I think Mellinda is inspired to be like Picasso's because she needs someone to look up to someone. Picasso is that someone that she needs so she doesent become more depressed. I think if she opens up to her art teacher than she wont be so depressed. I think what she saw in Picassos pics was what she saw was happening to herself. I honostly am not fond of art cuase I cant draw good. But art is not really something you can become good at. Its a gift. Its a gift that mellinda has and one that she conects with.
I agree with myself because art is a gift its something your born with.

  13. i think melinda was inspired by the art wrk because it has alot of ddifferent and shapes and its cool. most of picasos art work is full of mystory some is dark others are bold and alot of it has just random shpapes you can infor what you would think he is trying to say. this compares to minladas art work for example when she made a suclpture out of the bones the teacher infured what he thought it could be it was mysterious. her x besti friend ivy she even said that it was to scarry to look at for to long but a good scaary. both melinda and piscaso are similar becaus they both let other people i nfer in their art work

  15. Alissa Hochman period 7 said: Melinda was inspired by Picasso's artistic work because she can relate to both the dark but bright colors. Also she looks up to the pictures because she does not have anyone at home or school to look up at since she has no friends. And she can relate to art since you can get all of your thoughts out on the picture. The part of art that would stand out to me is the colors and sadness of the faces of the drawings. Maybe Melinda feels the same way as the pictures so she looks at them as herself. I agree with Carlye Uretta because she explained how Melinda thought of the art.

  16. Daniella Lagani Period 7- I think Melinda was inspired and capitvated by these artworks because she learned that not everything is perfect. These artworks don't look livelike or real. Everything is in the wrong spot. She learned that her artwork doesn't need to be the best or look exactly like the objevt she is trying to create. In the artwork on the top, the red and blue colors stand out to me. It the background one side is red and the other side is blue. The blue looks like ice and the red like fire. My interpretation is that it has something to be with opposites (fire and ice in the background) coming together as one(the person). I agree with Jackie Dalfonso because Melinda is an outcast and Picasso created many things that most people wouldn't even think to do.

  17. Sydney Rheingold Period 6- I think Melinda was inspired and captivated by Picasso's artwork because that piece of art is very different then many artists. There are many different shapes, sizes, and every color. The dark colors in this painting really pop out to me because there such negative colors. They all have to have some sort of meaning to why he put those colors into his work. She feels isolated and many of her thoughts are dark. It makes sense that she would relate to Picasso. Melinda is a very dark and negative person so this is why she is really inspired within this piece of art. I would agree with Emma because she really explains why Melinda was so inspired.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Jacee Cappelli Period 7- I think Melinda was inspired because the artwork Picasso created wasn't normal looking. The paintings didn't look like real life images, they had deeper meaning to them. Picasso expressed himself without making it obvious what he was trying to say, you had to dig deep to get a meaning out of the images he drew. Thats probably why Melinda found it so interesting. Melinda's connection is that she is obviously a creative person, and she found another way she could possibly let out what is bottled up inside. The things that stand out to me are the fact that nothing in the artwork looks symmetrical, and that nothing looks like it belongs together, yet somehow it fits. I agree with Alissa, because she says that Melinda looks up to Picasso because she is struggling to find a way to express herself, and Picasso created a strange way to do that. Also when Alissa said that Melinda can relate to the dark colors/pictures within the picture as well at the lighter colors and images.

I believe Melinda was so mesmerized by the works of Picasso because he was relatable to her. Expressing his feelings with anger and insanity because it was the only way he could make sense out of things.
Within Picasso's art are many intricate designs and hidden patterns which may or may not lead people to believe Picasso was trying to send a message to all of those who looked at his art. The image of the man with a face made out of different symbols and shapes shows realism in the way where he shows reality but in an above and beyond way that is hard to comprehend. I feel as though Picasso's work shows many emotions mixed together and him trying to make sense out of all of them. Melinda's connection to the artwork shows how much she has digressed that she can completely understand an artist who has been believed to be insane and extremely depressed.

I agree with Jacee when she says that Melinda was able to relate to his artwork because of how far fetched it was, but he had good intentions of sending a message to people.

  20. Abdullah Ahmad Period 3 I think Melinda was inspired and captivated by Picasso's artwork because she saw lots of different shapes and colors which created a positive feeling for Melinda. Melinda saw how Picasso expressed his struggles from his artwork. I see a lot of detail that makes smaller images into a large ideas. Picasso used his imagination and intelligence into creating many things. Melinda's connection to his work shows that she wanted to paint like him. The paintings inspired her to do something in her tree that is similar to Picasso. I agree with Emma LaBarbera because she explained how Melinda was inspired by Picasso.

  21. nathan trost period 3 i think that melinda was so interested in the picaso painting was because she could relate to it. she could relate to it because like her some people think that the paintings are weird when realy you just have to look deep into it to see somthing. i like how in some paintings picaso makes one shape and another shape inside of it so its like your looking into two shapes. i think that in picaso image three he was trying to show someone who was sad and crying meabey because picaso was hurting and used his art to express his feelings. i agree with sydney reihngold on what she was saying about how some of the colors like the dark ones realy pop out at you when you look at the painting.

  22. Richard Hoffberg Period 3- I think Melinda was so inspired and captivated by Picasso's work because of the many interesting pictures and contrasting colors that occur in the art. Also the pictures themselves are uniquely painted to make faces which many people like. To me the red on the left eye stood out in picture 1. In 2 also the red part of the leaf above the person, stood out; and in 3, the hair in the lady stood out. These pictures stand out to me as pictures of people happy (2, they are laughing). And they want to describe themselves through music (3, the lady with the guitar). Melinda's connections to this work show a true feeling expression in work that she made after seeing this, she's progressing a lot.

  23. Chris G Period 7- Not only did Melinda's love for art come into play, but Picasso's paintings inspired Melinda because cubism is simple but meaningful. You see a bunch of cubes on a piece of paper, but you have to dig deeper to find the meaning. When I first saw Picasso's paintings, I either saw an array of colors, or just one color. Everything that Picasso drew had to be placed just right so it would make sense. When I look at his work, I can not seem to find any happiness. Even with the bright colors, the faces just seem so sad.
I agree with Federica Balboni's (Period 4) statement because you really do have to look closely into Picasso's painting to discover the meaning, and its the same with Melinda. Everyone hates Melinda for the party incident but what they don't realize is that she had to do it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Emily Coash- Period 7
When Melinda saw the work of Picasso she was astonished. I think his art amazed her because it really showed how Picasso felt while making that piece and Melinda could connect to it. I think by seeing his art it finally hit Melinda how she was suppose to feel and how to incorporate those feelings in her art work. Melinda probably is thinking of ways to tell the real story of what happened on a "night to remember" to everyone through art. I also think Melinda can connect to this because Picasso's art shows a lot of mixed emotions, thoughts and feelings all mixed in one composition. Melinda can relate to that because she has a million thoughts running through her mind and many feelings that she has been holding in.

I agree with Emma when she said
"The artwork holds a bigger meaning than what people think at first and it takes a while for people to understand the artwork, and thats very similar to Melinda because in order to know her, you have to understand what she's going through and to be able to figure that out, you have to dig deep and try to understand."

because a lot of people at Melinda's school judge Melinda from what she looks like or what they heard about her. Melinda is hard to understand especially if you knew what happened that night. They don't know her story and if they go to know her maybe they would see.

  25. Michael Salvatori (period 3) - I think Melinda was so inspired and captivated by Picasso's artwork because of the colors and images shown throughout each piece of artwork. There are many bright and dark colors in each picture. Picasso puts many small images together to create one final picture. I look at Picasso's drawings as beimng very sad. All of the characters in his pintings seem very sad and depressed. I think that Picasso's artwork is very interesting because of all the objects and shapes incorperated inside the painting that add extra meaning. Melinda is connected to this artwork because she likes his views of cubism. It helps her see the world in a completely different way. Melinda wishes she could have met Picasso because she loves his artwork so much. Melinda has to learn to express her feelings and emotions through the artwork. I agree with Chris
Garritano because he also views the pictures as being sad. Chris also talks about cubisms affect on Picasso and Melinda's life.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Olivia Barbulescu period 7- I think that Melinda was captivated and inspired by Picasso’s artwork featuring cubism because cubism isn’t an art that displays something easily. When drawing landscapes, portraits and things, you are able to know what the image is of and what it means somewhat on contact. In cubism you must look deeper into the image to understand what the artist is trying to display; whether it is a certain emotion like sadness or a theme. In a lot of the pictures the images are dark and depressing, just like Melinda is feeling. Cubism shows what something looks like but then also depicts feelings, moods and thoughts. In the first picture there is a man, but off to the side of the main focal point are many objects, perhaps representing what the man is thinking of. When Melinda sees Picasso’s pictures I think it made it clearer for her how she was feeling because she could connect with the emotions being transferred through the artwork. Melinda looks normal from the outside the same way there is a person in each picture, but Melinda is “sick” on the inside and isolated the way colors and shapes make up a certain type of painting (for example, dark being depressed and light being happy).
I agree with Ariel Coonin when she says that Picasso made his paintings unrelatable which made Picasso himself seem disconnected because that is the same way Melinda acts towards people in school, teachers and her family.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Shannon Zuccarelli (period 6)- I think that Melinda was captivated by Picasso's artwork because it is different. His portraits have different shapes and features on one face, which represents diversity and being unique. For example, there are different colors that are in the first piece, but it all works together to make one artwork that stands out from the rest. This relates to Melinda because she is unlike the rest of the school ever since the party. She is isolated and considered different with no friends. Picasso made artwork that isn't the typical portrait, or what you would expect, and Melinda is more than meets the eye because she never told anyone about what really happend.
I agree with what Olivia said about how you have to look deeper into the image in cubism to find the real meaning in something. Melinda doesn't speak to anyone about her life and just keeps it inside, but you need to look deeper into who she is and what she needs to say.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Matthew Miles (period 7)- Melinda was inspired by this because of the colors/images that were shown in the painting. There are bright and dark colors. Dark referring to her depression and bright referring to her old self when she was once a happy person. Also this artwork inspired her because it was something completely different/unique and thats what Melinda likes. This relates to Melinda because at school she is isolated. Picasso created the artwork which was not like any portrait. It also shows how melinda hasn't told anyone about what actually happened that night.
I agree with Chris Garritano because the paintings are really sad and thats the way Melinda feels all the time. I also agree how cubism is related. I also agree with how you have to dig deep to find the true meaning

  29. Nicole D'Annibale (period 4) I think Melinda was inspired and captivated by Picasso's artwork because it takes a while to understand and interperate the pictures You have to look beyond the shapes and colors to reveal the message. Everyone judges Melinda on what's on the outside, her appearance and what she wears. No one takes time to take a closer look at Melinda and find out the truth about her on the inside. All of the different shapes stand out when I look at these artworks. The colors are all dark, plain and simple almost like Melinda. My interpretation of the work is that all people are made different, look different, and act different than each other. The work is confusing but also interesting because you have to take time to figure it out. There is a story behind everything, Picasso's artwork and Melinda. I agree with Carlye Uretta's comment because I also think that if everyone took a minute to figure out Melinda, they would understand what happened to her and what's going on in her head.

  30. Sydney M Period 3-
Melinda was inspired by Picasso’s use of cubism because it was what she needed to make her bring her tree to life, she needed to draw beyond the surface and create a mood of the art. Cubism is about rearranging pictures so the viewer can still see what the picture is, but there’s more under the surface of his pictures. When Melinda is flipping through the book, nothing strikes her as that important but when she finds the cubism chapter, she starts to see her life beyond the surface. When I first look at Picasso’s work, it strikes me as odd how everything is placed, but when I start to look deeper I see how everything is in that place for a reason. Melinda’s connection to this shows that she knows what it’s like to want to be seen beyond the outward appearance, she want’s people who care enough to figure her out because she’s dying inside. I agree with Chris Garritano’s interpretation because cubism is a simple topic but it has so much meaning to it. The pictures are a bunch of cubes on paper but he also points out that Melinda is interested in this because of the simplicity of how to make a picture or carving perfect.

  31. Conor McGillicuddy - Period 3 -

    1. Melinda was inspired by Picasso so much because of Picasso's unique style. Picasso tried to create an image by showing multiple perspectives. Melinda only saw life through her one perspective which was "Life is terrible". Seeing how she could use different perspectives on the same subject Mel began to see the world through different eyes. The bold colors and passion in Picasso's art made Melinda think about how she could be bold or passionate. There is deep contrast in Picasso's art. Colors clash and stiff lines jut out from the page. This is a style of art where the viewer has to deeply look at to understand. The bold contrast of red on blue makes an especially powerful feel. Picasso's art shows his true emotion, his real soul and how he feels. Picasso was a true genius who had the intelligence to try and reform art and introduce strong ideas into art.

    2. I agree with Matthew Miles' statement because he points out how the dark colors in Picasso's work show a dark personality.

  32. Katie Stevens. Period 4- Melinda was very inspired by Picasso's paintings because of his zealous and unique style. In the paintings, Piccaso used many different sources of color and shapes which meant something in each painting above. The colors could interpret the mood of the artist and the shapes could illistrate the meaning behind each individual shape. Personally, Piccaso's paintings were challenging to read within those three paintings above. However, since each shape means something, you can put the shapes togther to understand the full meaning of the painting. Each shape hides a secret message and to unlock that message you must detect the individual shapes meaning, to put together the meaning of the whole painting together. Melindas connection to Piccaso's paintings is how she wants people to see her for who she really is. Melinda is difficult to figure out just like Picasso's paintings because it takes time to understand them both.
I agree with Sydney M.'s response because she points out the fact that Melinda wants people to take the time to understand her, just like people take time to understand Piccaso's paintings.

  33. Gabriella Barile (period 3) I think Melinda was inspired and captivated by Picasso’s work because she was able to understand what his messages were in his artwork. She could look past the colors and shapes, and understand Picasso’s feelings and emotions he was portraying in the artwork. A lot of Picasso’s work used dark colors and seemed boring on the surface, just like some people see Melinda. But once you look at all the different shapes, and his use of cubism you get something deeper from the picture. My personal interpretation of his work is that on the surface people may seem boring or weird, but once you get to know them and talk to them they can turn out to be really good people. I agree with Sydney M. when she said that once Melinda got to the cubism chapter, she was able to connect Picasso’s artwork to looking beyond the surface of her own life.

  35. Kyle Lometti Period 3. I think Melinda was so captivated by the work of Picasso because in his cubism art, you have to look very hard to see what it the picture is really depicting, because everything is all jumbled together. This almost represents Melinda's life because her life was basically turmoil when she first moved into high school. And also the fact that you look very hard to tell what the picture is of also connects to Melinda because she is a different person on the inside then who she appears to be on the outside. She also is difficult to understand, just like the work of Pablo Picasso. She is difficult to understand because most of the time she chooses not to communicate her feelings or ideas, and she has one through such a drastic change emotionally, mentally and physically since the night of the party over the summer.

  36. Nick Nelson period 6- I think Melinda is inspired by the work of Picasso because in cubism art, the picture looks strange and confusing, and you have to look inside to find the real meaning. This is exactly describing Melinda's life. Everybody hates her because they think that she called the cops to bust them, but if they actually take the time to talk to her, they could find out that theres more than that appears, like that she was raped. She is also difficult to understand, just like Picasso. I agree with Kyle L from period 3 because like I said, Melinda is messed up on the surface, but has a lot more inside.

  37. Sabrina Amicucci period 4- Melinda was inspired by Picasso's art work because it was different than most art work, just like Melinda is different than most people at her school. Another reason why i think melinda was inspired by Picasso is because the colors in his paintings are bright and it is showing melinda the positive side of life. I agree with Nicolette Forgione because i also think Picasso's art creates a positive image in Melinda's head about her art and how she was struggling to express her feelings in her Art work.

  38. Rebecca O. Period 4:
Melinda was greatly inspired by the different Picasso paintings because they are all different and you never really see the same thing twice. I feel like Melinda took it as an inspiration to her own artwork. The paintings also have many layers and it's all not one color, so it's like her, kind of hard to figure out. I also agree with Katie and Sabrina because Picasso had a different point of view on his art work and it was zealous and artsy.

  39. Tristan Votta Period 6- I think Melinda is so inspired by Picasso's artwork because it requires people to think, dig deeper to find the actual message of the artwork. I also think she is inspired by it because his work is very intricate and unique, just like her artwork. My interpretation of Picasso's artwork is that it people's physical traits might not always be perfect or attractive, but if you look deeper you can find out who they really are. This can connect to Melinda because people think she is unattractive on the outside, but if they got to know her, they might actually like her. I agree with Kyle L. because he says people aren't the same on the inside as they are on the outside and, I think this is true. I also agree with him when he says that Melinda is difficult to understand just like Picasso's artwork. In my opinion I think that is one of the reasons that most people don't want to be friends with Melinda. I think that the students don't care enough to give up their time, to get to know her.

  40. Sam ORourke pd 6 I think Melinda was inspired because picasos paintings are very dark and dim which show a side of mystery just like when heather tries to get a word out of Melinda she stays quiet giving off that mysterious feel. I agree when my classmates said they paint alike. With pacaso like Rebecca said you never do see the same thing twice. I believe that it's the same with how Melinda handles her problem it so far has not improved.

  41. James Delia: Period 6- I think Picasso's artwork captivated and inspired Melinda because it represents her life. Picasso's uses many pieces in his artwork not creating a complete picture representing a person who's life is in pieces and has not been healed or has become a full person. The bright colors stand out to me because it represents someone's mood. The images all seem to be sad and unhappy, just like Melinda. Picasso's artwork represents Melinda because it is like a puzzle waiting to be solved. Everyone hates Melinda because she called the cops, but if they found out what really happened, then they would understand why she called the cops. I agree with Kyle Lometti because they are both two puzzles waiting to be figured out.

  42. Scott Bartman, Period 4-
I think Melinda was inspired by Picasso because when you first look at the picture it looks like nothing special but if you look closer to find the actual meaning then you will realize that there is a message and you can not see it in the beginning but if you look close enough then you will see it. Also Picasso represented life like it is, so his images are not happy most of the time. Melinda is like this, she is not what or who she appears to be. You have to look very closely at her to figure her out which I believe Mr. Freeman is actually trying to do. The fact that she is connected to the art displays her belief that the pictures are a representation of who she is and what she sees through her eyes.

I agree with Nathan because I also believe Picasso was hurting especially when he broke up with Fernando and when his close friend committed suicide. He definitely used his art to express his feelings.

  43. Shyla Solangi per7, I think she was inspired because the work makes you think a a different way, my inspiration from this is that, when I dont gt something, find a new way to look at it

Melinda was inspired by picassos art work because it repersents her life. Picasso uses cubism in his art work which isseeing beyond what is on the surface. Melinda connects to this becasue no one looks Beyond Melindas face when they see her they think she is the girl that called the cops. Not the girl thats hurt and unsocial because of what happened. The colors that stand out to me are the bright colors, and the werid looking designs. My personal interpretation of this paintings are people that look ugly on the outside but are very nice on the inside.
    2. I ageree with Nick Nelson because there is alot more person that you see. lIke someone can be very pretty and they can be mean to everyone

  45. Nick F. Period 3 - I think Melinda is inspired but Picasso's artwork because at first sight, Picasso's work looks like random shapes and colors, but when you take a second look and look carefully, each art piece has a meaning. The meaning inside these pieces are bad and good because Picasso painted life like it is. When it's a sad theme, the pictures have darker colors like the ones above. Melinda connected to this because when you take a first look, everyone sees a depressed loser who is ugly and has no friends. But, when you look deep inside of Melinda, she's actually a good person and isn't as bad as people think. I think Picasso's messages were deep and only he knew the true meaning of them.

I agree with Kyle L because Melinda looks bad from the outside but on the inside there's a lot more then you think.

  46. Harrison Steins: period 7- I think that Melinda was very much captivated by the art that Picasso had made, mostly his work with cubism. She Figures out that Picasso's cubism is trying to express that something can be great but you may just have to look deeper and look beyond the surface to find out how great it is. The cubist work has people's faces unarranged and the bodies all diced up. I personally do like this type of art and think that the message relates to the age old favorite of don't judge a book by its cover. Melinda may now see an idea for her tree and how she will express herself through the project. The chapter on cubism is the only real chapter that catches Melinda's attention. I agree with Sydney M.'s interpritation of Picasso's cubism in which she stated that Melinda feels a connection in that it is best not to focus on outward appearances but rather she wants people who care enough to look deep inside her and see that she is dying.

I think Melinda was inspired by Picasso's artwork because it was abstract, and different from regular art. She realized that you can look at things in different perspectives and make something out of it (art). The paintings may not exactly make the people look "pretty" but that was the point of it... to bring out the imperfections, and I think that's really what grabbed Melinda's attention. She is insecure with herself, and to see insecurities and imperfections become artwork, is inspiring her to express herself more and understand that nobody's perfect and that its normal. That's what I see in Picasso's artwork. I think it says something about him... He's not afraid to make something look "ugly" or different in a weird way. I can see confidence in his artwork through the color choices he makes; bold colors all over. It connects with Melinda because the paintings seem puzzled, which is what her personality is right now. She's trying to figure herself out. I agree with Kevin with his idea that Picasso used cubism to show what's beyond the surface. It's true, and it relates to how Melinda is judged by her outward appearance in her school, which brings her personality down.

  48. Brian ganis: period 3- i think that what inspired Melinda so much, was the method of cubism that Picasso had applied. She realizes that his art work isn't "right in front of you." "You must read in between the lines." In other words you must look deeper into things, rather than settle for the easy option.(Depending on the situation)Melinda's tree is symbolic to her progression as a person. The usage of colors make the pictures stand out more and illuminate the image. I agree with Carlye Uretta because we both agree that Melinda is gradually improving in her life both social, physical and emotional.

I think that Melinda was inspired and captivated by Picasso's artwork because it was different than most art. Melinda really understands how to look at art and see what artwork actually means and look at it through her own eyes. His art represents Melinda's life. These art pieces connect to Melinda because when the people around her see Melinda all they think about is how she is the girl that busted everyone at the party and called the cops, nobody takes the time to get to know her or actually wonder what the real story was. I agree with Nicolette because I think that Picasso's art work lets Melinda think positive and let her have a fresh positive thinking going on in her mind and it will help her express herself in her art work.

  50. Sierra Struzzi Period 3 - I think that Melinda was inspired by Picasso's artwork because it showed all of Picasso's emotions it's very unique compared to other artwork. She learned that, from looking at his artwork, you can see the different feelings that people put into their work to make it more interesting to themselves and to their viewers. When you look at Picasso's artwork you can see that he paints little pictures of people that make up the whole painting. All of the different little images and bright colors stand out to me because they make the painting have a happy attitude. I really like Picasso's artwork because I think it's inspiring and rare. Melinda's connection to Picasso's artwork shows that she was influenced to present her feelings in her own artwork like he did in his. I agree with Michelle Aguirre's interpretation because she sees Picasso's artwork the same way I do by stating how it's abstract and how it's different from other artwork.

  51. Rich Hoffberg Period 3- I didn't finish the entire assignment. I agree with Brian, you have to read between the lines on cubism to understand it and I think the same is with Melinda, get to know her to judge her and you'll see that she isn't a bad person. Don't judge a book by its cover.

  52. Roma Scarano(pd.4)..... Melinda was inspired and captivated by Picasso’s art because of the mystery behind it. The cubism artwork requires the viewer to dig deep to find the root of the meaning through its outer appearance. Through a collection and variety of shapes and colors, this art work can be misleading by a glance of ignorance. This is exactly what is happening to Melinda when people take their own look at her. They haven’t tried to find the true meaning of why the cops were called and don’t make an effort to seek it. This type of artwork is an outcast to the more classic ones and so is Melinda except her canvas is MerryWeather High. The abstract is not to make it seem simple enough to look at and move on; it is supposed to make you go out of your way, make you think, and interpret. I agree with Melanie because she also believes that Melinda connected with this because of the fact that people have to go through the outer appearance to find the internal truth.

Melinda was inspired and captivated by Picaso's work because Picaso uses different shapes and designs to express his feelings on his drawings, people would know about him and it can represent her life to the people.Melinda has cubism for art class they want to make the tree come to life, viewers can look at it but they dont know what it means/how it feels to the people. The drawings can have mysterys by its collection of shapes and colors. the people can not know the true meaning of the painting, and would want to find out why they designed the painting. his paintings can refer and compare how they are the same, Melinda had called the cops when she was at a party, she was raped and didnt know what to say to him.in her school people dont talk to her because some got arrested they dont know the true meaning of why she called the cops. they refer to Picaso and Melinda, people want to know the mystery and will judge it, they would judge it because they dont know what it means/what he did(melinda) and his paintings. i agree to mathhew stamement becaus in the book he states that the painting has dark colors, it means it could have a dark personality, the people can have a dark personality to the people.

I believe Melinda was so inspired by Picasso because she can the felling in the pictures and understand the rage and frustration in them as well as the pain and misery in them. The 1 peace of Picasso on the blog really made me think about what was going though Picassos head at the time he made all of these. I see in this picture a woman who has to work every day on the streets and hates it! She wishes for grater thing then play on the streets for the peasants. Her connection to Picasso work show her understand and meaning of each one of his art pieces even if Melinda doesn’t fully understand it.

  55. Rison Wims period 6- I think that Melinda was so inspired by Picasso's artwork because it is different from everything else. Picasso was sort of an odd ball out and so is Melinda ever since the party at the end of the summer. I think even though she doesn't know Picasso because he is dead, she feels that she can relate to him better than anyone she knows because since Picasso was alone like her maybe she feels if he was alive, he would understand what she was going through. The second image really stands out to me because of all the colors and the shapes. When you look at the face in the image, it looks very sad like it's crying. I think that this is very ironic compared to all the bright colors. I also think it's very creative the way he does his artwork. When Picasso was alive, the art was all traditional and his art is really out there and exotic compared to everything else. I agree with Kyle L because Melinda doesn't show her true feelings to anyone and hasn't told anyone about what happened and people have to look deeper into her to discover who she really is, not just what she looks like.

I think Melinda had connection to Picasso's artwork because his art was broken up into pieces instead of one central image. It showed her that a great artist doesn't have to follow rules or go by the norm, so to speak. You cannot tell what Picasso is talking about unless you look deeper into the image. Picasso didn't make images to look like what they actually were. He made them look like monsters. This is like Melinda because on the outside, she looks distraught, dirty, and to some extent, scary, but when you take the time to dig deep and see her as a person, she is not that bad. People think that she is normally like this, but they don't know the extent of what happened to her or what made her act this way.
I agree with Kyle L because Melinda went through such a drastic change since the night of the party, that it is difficult to express herself. She doesn't look normal because of all of her bottled up emotion. That is why people look at her the way they do.

I think Melinda was inspired by Picasso's work because it was different and didn't fit in with everything else. Melinda felt a connection to Picasso because it shows that to be great, you don't always have to go with the flow and do what everyone else is doing, which is what Melinda has been trying to do to fit in again. Picasso made his cubism work a mixture of shapes and color that make up a greater picture. Sometimes, the picture is not clear unless the meaning of the painting clearly stands out to you. Melinda is sort of like Picasso's paintings; on the outside she doesn't look normal, she doesn't really take care of her appearance, but once someone gets to know her and figures out what she has been through, Melinda won't seem as different and unapproachable as people think.

  58. Brandon A. pd.3 I think Melinda was inspired by Picasso is because of her intrest in art. Melinda's connection to Picasso is the abstract art they use
