Tree Identity Assignment

Write a well-written paragraph describing the various symbols on your tree and what they describe about you.  (this should be at least 8 sentences)
In this piece of writing, be sure to define what particular “journey in life” you are referring to and why/how this tree symbolizes or defines that journey and YOU

(If you are confused, think about the speaker’s journey and how she comes to terms with what happened to her by finally opening up, speaking about the event, and facing the person who did it.)

  3. Mike Salvatori (period 3) - I included symbols for the words intelligent, confidence, athletic, leadership, humorous, friendly, grumpy and intelligent. I used symbols like a basketball, football, basketball player, smart car, report card, a comedian, a presidential seal and a few others. These symbols all explain a part of my personality. The traits on my tree show who I am and even who I want to be. I believe that the traits on my tree are very important to me and my life. They show who I am as a happy person. My tree does not have dark colors or show any signs of sadness or depression. This is because I like to look as myself as a positive person.

  4. Brian Ganis-period 3: For my tree assignment i incorporated characteristics of myself such as caring, athletic, leadership/responsible, self sufficient and studious. The symbols i chose to demonstrate this were doctors, basketball players, books, factories, etc. My tree is bright, colorful and decorative it is far from dull, bland and blunt. These colors represent the type of person that i am. At this point in time i am satisfied and pleased with the life i live and the choices i make. I can only hope to be a successful adult when i mature. The characteristics i possess now will contribute to the characteristics i'll obtain when I'm older.

My tree represents me in many ways and some of the things are symbols that are not obvious. One thing that represents me is the roots of the tree. The words written on them represent the things that matter most to me like family, friends, and academics, among other things. Another symbol of me is the weed at the bottom of the tree. It represents me because I know for a fact that I I am not perfect and I never will be. The tree is not dark because I am a happy optimistic person.

  6. Nick F. - Period 3: On my tree project I included characteristics such as intelligent, caring, friendly, funny, courageous, and leadership. For each characteristic, I have a specific picture to represent it. For example, I have a brain that is working out to show I'm intelligent and I work very hard on my work. My tree is not dark and depressing because I am not a dark, depressing person. I like who I am and I am satisfied with my life so far. All of these characteristics describe who I am as a person and hopefully these traits will help me as I progress as an adult.

  7. Alissa Hochman period 7 said: I am a cheerleader. I choose to write about that because from when I was younger I always wanted to be a Harrison High School cheerleader. Now I finally am one. When I was in 8th grade I was at a private school called Windward. Then when I started at the high school it was much larger with many more students so U was overwhelmed but now I am used to it. In the book Speak, I can relate myself to Heather because she is new to the school district. Also the other symbols on my tree describe my nationality which is Italian. Ever since I was younger I always wanted to go to Italy so I am very interested with learning and hearing about it. In addition, I love spending time with friends. My tree is not dark or depressing because I am not like that.

  8. Jacee Cappelli Period 7- The symbols on my tree represented me being creative, shy, childish, fearful, impatient, awkward, humorous, funny, ect. For each characteristic I have a symbol that represents it. Like on my tree i have a pacifier, this represents me being childish. I also specifically chose a Christmas tree because Christmas is my favorite holiday. Its all about family and being together, plus i really enjoy getting presents. i am actually really proud of the way my project turned out. Its not a gloomy looking tree instead its happy and full of bright colors. It accurately represents me as a person and the way i feel. I was a little afraid going into HHS, thinking that my ideas on life and other points of view were going to change, but so far everything is going good and i am happy with the way everything is.

  9. Max Uretta Period 7- On my tree project I used five characteristics. The characteristics I chose were polite, funny, athletic, intelligent and talkative. The symbols I used to represent these characteristics were, someone saying excuse me, someone laughing, someone playing football, someone holding a paper with an A on it and someone talking. I painted my tree green symbolizing a bright and happy color because I am not sad or angry or anything like that. Also for my pictures I did the best I can to make them all be colorful and bright. All the traits I chose, I feel, give a good presentation of who I am and a good description of my personality. I hope these traits stick with me throughout my life, maybe talkative a little less but the rest are all good and positive to have as an adult and I hope to have them throughout my life.

The energizer bunny represents enrgetic, the brain represents smart and the hard hat represents industrial, because i can construct and build things very well. When making the tree i kept in mind my future journey that i will take in life. How many of these skills will come in handy? Will they help with my education? Where will these skills get me in twenty years?

  11. Nicole D (period 4) There are many characteristics that my friends, family, and I can use to describe my personality. I have placed symbols on my tree that represent each character trait. I placed clothing, shoes, and bags all over the tree because I am impulsive. I love to go shopping and I like to buy everything I see, whether it’s shopping in the store or online. The basketball and lacrosse stick symbolize that I am athletic and cooperative. These are my two favorite sports and I love playing them with my friends. These sports involve teams which when I am on, I am cooperative with all my teammates. The pots and pans are on my tree because I love to cook. They are placed on the outside branches because I am adventurous, curious, and very open when trying new foods and recipes. Sometimes I am lazy and a procrastinator when I wait to get things done but other times I am hardworking and persistent when I focus and do my best in school. I have put the pillow and wrench on my tree to represent these traits. I placed these symbols on opposite sides because I can go from one to the other. When it comes to Christmas and my birthday, I am selfish and spoiled. I enjoy receiving lots of presents. The wrapping paper represents presents. I placed the wrapping paper where the tree isn’t very open because I like to hide these traits. I placed the smiley face on the top of the tree because I always try to stay happy and positive. As you can see, I have a very full tree; I included all of these traits because they best describe me.

  12. Carlye Uretta Period 4- On my tree i put various symbols that represent me both physically and emotionally some are over all things i do and enjoy and some are things that have just happened and i felt it was nessacary to add to my tree. The first symbol i put on my tree was a smiley face, i put this on because i love to make people laugh when they are sad or when they are happy because i think everyone deserves to smile every once in a while and it makes you feel better a little bit. The next symbol was a basketball followed by a soccer ball both of the symbols are used to show i love sports and i'm athletic, i play sports not only because i enjoy it but because it helps get my mind off of stress. Another symbol was a picture of my friends, i put this because they help me through a lot and they mean a lot to me and i personally think i'm a good friend well i try to be, because i try to give them good advice when they come to me, i try to cheer them up when i'm happy, and i try to always be there for them when they need me and most of the time i am. I also put a picture of me and my sister because she is my hero and she means the world to me because of what she's gone through and how strong of a person she is emotionally, and when i see her i love to make her smile and laugh because it makes me feel good that i was able to do that. The last symbol i put was a person unable to pick up a weight, i put this to show i was weak emotionally not physically, the reason i did this is because i'm a very sensitive person and i'm not the most confident person about myself but i'm improving. All these symbols best describe me as a person.

On my tree i include symbols such as a field hockey player, a guy laughing, stacked hands, two hairs opening, a bee, and a stack of papers. The field hockey player symbolizes that being a sports team has taught me how to be active and also important lessons such as teamwork. The guy laughing represents that I find humor in many things. I love to laugh and which says something humor is an important quality for me that my friends have. The stack of hands represent that I am cooperative. A few years ago I used to be more of the kind of person that dictates in a group. I have learned how to work for others so that everyone has an equal role in the group. The stack of papers not represents that I am a hard worker. No matter how much work has to be done I always try to do my best. The bee at the top represents I am very busy. I have after school sports and debate which are two very time consuming competitive teams. The two hands opening at the bottom of the try represent that I am helpful. I think all of these symbols represent who I am. These symbols represent my journey through life because who I am represent what I do and the decisions I make. My whole tree is autumn colored. Some of the leaves are painted gold and I added fruit and painted them gold. This autumn theme symbolizes a memory that I have that i wrote about for my writing assignment.

  18. Dominique Loguidice (Period 4)
I decided to create my tree, with a winter theme. I included a bare tree, with snow draped over the branches. I chose to make a tree during this time, besides creating a basic and normal tree because I personally believe that trees look their prettiest in the winter with all the snow on them. The symbols I chose to represent on my tree are, a softball, an italian flag, stars, paw prints, a palm tree and hearts. The softball represents a big part of my tree because softball is basically my whole life. I play all year round and all the time. The italian flag represents my family and my heritage. The stars represent how I absolutely love to look at the stars at night time, and the paw prints represent how i love animals and how i'm working my way up to becoming a vet. Lastly the palm tree represents a beach which me and my family love to go, and the heart represents how much i love my friends and family.

  19. Michelle Aguirre (per.3) For my tree, I tried to make it look colorful and happy to show how I am artistic and how I'm not afraid to show who I am. I had many symbols hanging on my tree like a key representing how I can be very trustworthy and responsible, a dolphin to represent that I'm friendly and a positive person, a light bulb to represent that I can be smart and sometimes full of ideas, etc. I also included pictures; I had a picture of my family at my brothers college graduation to represent how he inspires and motivates me. Also, a picture of just me and my brothers because they are a huge part of who I am. Sometimes I do things just to be able to impress them, and make them smile because of me. I had pictures of me and my friends because they also make up who I am since they're the people I choose to surround myself with because they motivate and understand me. Not only do the symbols on my tree have meaning, but also the tree itself and what it’s standing on. I wrapped my tree structure in newspaper writings because I wanted it to represent “my story”, and how my experiences are the structure of my personality- like the trunk is the structure of a tree. I chose to make my tree bare to show that I have weaknesses but I’m still standing because as I’ve learned, pain makes you stronger. The writing also symbolizes that it’s continuous, and that I still have more experiences to live through. I always wanted my life to be an interesting story to tell, and I tried to make my tree look like it has stories and memories in it because that’s what defines me- they made me become who I am now.

A few characteristics I used on my tree to represent me were athletic, intelligent, loud, persuasive, inquisitive, ambitious, and cooperative. For athletic, The symbol I used was a football, for intelligent I have a light bulb, for loud I have a person screaming into a megaphone, for inquisitive I have a boy raising his hand, for cooperative I have the NY Giants defensive line working together to make a tackle. Lastly I have a scale for ambitious and persuasive. It represents ambitious because I want to become a lawyer and since the scale is the symbol of the courtroom I figured that it would be appropriate. It also represents persuasive because lawyers need to be persuasive to be effective and I have been told by many that I am convincing. M tree is like a typical tree because I feel like I am a typical person. My tree is not dark and dead because I am not depressed and I am satisfied with who I am. However, on the flip side it is not in full bloom with flowers and it is not out there because I don't try to be seen by everybody and make a big scene about everything. I tried to do my best to make my tree about how I am now and what I hope to become.

I chose a variety of symbols and colors for my tree. This is because I wanted my tree to show that I'm creative and artistic. One symbol on my tree is a picture of a baseball because I love to play it and I find it very fun and entertaining. Another symbol I chose to put on my tree was a picture of someone climbing a mountain, which is representing ambition and confidence, which are two adjectives that describe me. I also put a picture on my tree that symbolized resonsiblity because I am responsible, and I hand in all my school work on time, and do everything that is expected of me. Finally, I put a picture of someone completing an extremely difficult task, which shows that I am determined, and I won't stop until something is finished to the best of my ability.

  22. Olivia Barbulescu Period 7- When creating my tree, I made it extremely full and colorful which shows that I can display many different types of personalities. All the different colors represent my abilities to be extremely vibrant and lively (red/orange/green) and embarrassed and shy (brown/dark green). I also created a clay version on myself climbing the tree, which shows my determination, motivation and positivity. I never give up and always try to the best of my ability. I also included a sculpture of a light bulb which reflects on how I am bright and intelligent, while also having a smiling mouth shows that I am funny and talkative. I had two signs, one being a picture of Curious George (showing my curiosity and eagerness) and a “Little Miss Bossy” sign which shows that sometimes I can be arrogant. I am athletic and love to ice skate, so I have a pair of ice skates hanging from a tree limb. The last symbol in which I created was two people sitting at a picnic having fun, which displays my constant tendency to be sociable and friendly. The people are surrounded by fallen leaves, which in itself shows how I am constantly shedding new ideas and thoughts. I have many different traits that make up who I am and the way I live my life.

  23. Ariel Coonin period 6,
A few symbols I used to represent me on my tree were apples, owls, butterflies, a shooting star and a clock. The apples represented the apples a teacher's pet would give a teacher because I've been called a teacher's pet before. The owls represent that I am smart because owls often represent wisdom. The butterflies represent that I am an anxious person because of the feeling of butterflies in your stomach when you get nervous. I chose to put a shooting star on my tree because I am ambitious and a clock because I am impatient. My tree is bright and vibrant in color because I think that I am a happy and friendly person. My tree is also in full bloom because as a teenager I think my personality is growing, changing and really blooming. On my tree I wanted to make it especially clear of all the characteristics that I have and how I hope that they will benefit me in the future.

Some symbols I used on my tree to represent me were a key, a jack-o-lantern, a juice box, a barbie doll head, pencils, ribbon, a key chain with a cruise on it and phone case. The key represents that I am secretive, I keep secrets from my friends and my family. The jack-o-lantern represents that I am scared, and they are suppose to scare people on halloween. The juice box represents that I am immature and childish and usually a majority of kids drink juice boxes but I do too. The barbie doll head represents me as fake, because barbie dolls are fake and smile even when they don't want to but behind that smile could potentially be a broken heart, but no one takes the time out of their lives to realize that or do anything about it because they are always smiling. The pencils and the ribbon represent that I am creative and imaginative. I love writing and drawing and I want to be an author when I'm older. The cruise key chain represents that I am adventurous, that I like exploring and going on cool vacations. And the phone case represents that I am talkative, I never know when to stop and I am attached to my phone by the hip.

  25. Harrison Steins- Period 7- In my tree I used many different symbols. I placed a compass on it to symbolism my leadership skills and the ability I have to lead people in the right direction. I have gone on leadership trips and one day hope to use these skills as a doctor to save a person's life. I put a mouthguard on it to symbolize the sports I do and how they are a major impact on my life. Sports have played such a hug role in shaping who I am today and although I do not wish to pursue it as a career, I think it has taught me a lot about team work. I put the words from the front page of the New York Times symbolizing my hope to one day make headlines in anything that I do. There is also a carabiniere on my tree to show that no matter how tough the people or the situation I will be able to connect them. Through the use of my leadership skill I will be able to connect many different kinds of people in various situations. I also chose to use real tree parts instead of making them to show that I can and will be myself around people, and that I don't have to make things up for people to like me, but rather they like me for who I am. I also cut out the letters to the words mature and polite, these are things that I try to be every day. I cut them out because that shows perseverance whereas I could have just typed them and printed them I took the extra time to go find different letters and paste them on. Although many of these traits are good I have a smashed clock in the right hand corner which represents my procrastination. Many of the things that I do will be put off until the last minute, this is one thing that I hope to change, so that it doesn't bring me down later in life.

  26. Conor McGillicuddy, Period 3 – In my project I chose five symbols that describe me. The first of my symbols is the pencil. The pencil represents school and schoolwork. I put a lot of time and effort into achieving academic success and this shows that I am diligent and that I show adequate effort. The next symbol is the paintbrush. I chose this because it represents creativity and passion. I am very artistic and I often draw and paint in my free time. Painting is a great way to express yourself and I find that using creativity effectively greatly decreases stress. Another symbol is the guitar. I play the guitar and I practice every day. I make an effort to succeed at the instrument to the best of my abilities. I also play the trumpet. Managing to play and practice both on a regular schedule is hard and requires patience and dedication. The winged foot is my next symbol and it shows that I run cross country. Running for many miles can be wearing both physically and mentally. Running the great distances requires a lot of patience and practice. The last symbol is the bed symbolizing laziness. I am not perfect and at times I can be lazy and unorganized. I have grown since the last year with these traits and I hope to improve myself further.

  27. Roma S (pd.4)….. This tree I created includes many symbols that represent who I truly am. My tree is painted gold and is standing on dark purple cloth. The theme of my tree was the “Never Hide” slogan that came from a Ray Ban magazine ad. I purposely did this because I stand out form the crowd just like my tree would if it was in a forest. I put a cupcake on the base of my tree to represent that I am sweet and always attempt to put a smile on a sad face. Near there is an oven mitt to show that I am flavorful depending on what life throws at me. In addition, I put a water bottle on the tree to show I am keep myself healthy and well being. The candy cane was put on because I love the holidays for it is the times my sister comes back from college and I could hang out with family and friends. Another very significant object is the tap shoe on the base of the tree. It represents the way I artistically bring myself into the world and open opportunities and dreams for my future.

  29. Yumi R. Period 3
The tree represents a soul, or specifically my soul. There are several items in the clay sculpture that have significance to me, based on what I’ve experienced so far in my life. The creatures that sit on the roots of the tree are what I have chosen to call a Simple Thing. In the setting I have put the tree in, my tree is among the very last trees alive, and it is very old yet stands strong. The Simple Things represent the spirits of trees that have already died. They come forth to this tree and assemble around it so they could protect, and preserve the soul. The Simple Things are my symbol for how I am always guarded. At the beginning of my life, I had been very careless and foolish but after I experienced getting hurt by my innocence, I have noticed how I seemed to guard myself, or isolate myself from a situation similar to the one that lead me to get hurt. The Simple Thing also symbolize the different pieces of who I used to be, as with all my guarding it is easy for me to get lost and forget what’s most important and dear to my heart. I am currently trying to find out who I am, and if enough Simple Things assemble back to me, then I may be able to bring back myself. The vines that cruelly wrap around the branches are the people in my life or the haters, which try to stop me from becoming a whole person. They grasp on to you, hold you down, and try to prevent my branches from growing leaves and blooming. I am not perfect and neither is my tree, which is shown in the broken branch I decided to put in. This leads to the trunk of my tree. However scared and damaged it is, it still manages to grow on and to change. This is what I will eventually do as well as I go through my journey of discovering myself. Change is good but a sudden change isn’t. Sudden changes cause us to take sudden actions or may even force us to make silent cries for help. This may be why I lost myself.

I am cooperative because I like working in groups and I learn more from it, then working alone. If I don't know the answer to something, one of the group members would help me. I got a picture of a question mark because I am curious and I always ask questions at home. If I can't find the answer then I look it up. I also used a picture of someone not being able to sleep, because when I am nervous about something I can't sleep and I sit up in my bed all night.

  34. Katie Stevens. Period 4- I chose to make my tree a half and half tree. One side of the tree is winter because that is when the tree is not as lively as the other seasons and because it would represent my bad sides. The other half of my tree is representing my good sides with the seasons summer and spring. I chose to make the trunk of the tree all the things that make me who i am today. The top part of my tree are adjectives that decide me. On the trunk i have symbols of a jewish star to represent my religion. I also have a bunch of words that describe what makes me as well. The top part of my tree, the side with positive things that identify me have pictures of books stacked up neatly, a heart, two hands shaking, etc.) The books stacked up neatly represented that i am a very organized person. I am a very big neat freak and i always keep my books and things organized and i always color cordinate my notes. The heart represents that i am a very loving person. I always open my heart out to others and love friends not enemies. The two hands shaking represents that i am a very friendly person. I believe that everyone deserves a chance. I love meeting new people and branching myself out to others. Its good for the other person to feel comfterble and be able to allow themselves to open up and be themselves. On the other side of my tree, the side that shows my bad points, i have words that describe myself. I have many words, however, the one that i want to change the most is the word, scared. I am always scared to try new things because i love staying on the safe side. I hate taking risks and chances when i know i can just follow a path that will keep me fine. However, if i take a chance and a risk i might end up with something better.

  35. Gabriella B (period 3)- My actual tree looks like any other, brown, with some branches. This is how I see myself, on the outside I try to blend in with everyone else around me. Then on the tree I have symbols like an Italian flag, a dancer, caution tape, a glass shown as half empty/full, a money tree, an the famous move from the movie Dirty Dancing. The symbols on my tree show my current journey in life. The Italian flag represents how I am a very family oriented person, my family comes before everything. The dancer is on my tree to display how I am an emotional person. I take a lot that’s said to heart, but the way I choose to express those emotions the best is through my dance. Another symbol on the tree that’s a new part of who I am is the caution tape. The caution tape symbol shows that I’m a cautious person. I’m cautious with trusting and believing what other people tell me. I find that being will help protect me in the long run by preventing me from believing everything I am told. Recently I have come to see that not everyone always tells the truth but what is worse then the truth is when people lie. Therefore in order to protect myself from some lies I put a sort of “wall” in between everyone involved in my life. All the symbols on my tree represent who I am currently and what my journey in life is like at the moment.

  37. Nicolette Forgione Period 3 - On my tree, I put many different symbols to represent who I am physically and also who I am emotionally. The pictures on my tree describe me as being happy, fun, friendly, lazy, loving and caring. I put a picture of a dolphin on my tree because I think dolphins are a unique way of showing my happiness because they're mostly always happy. I put pictures of me and my friends to represent how I love hanging out and spending time with them because they mean the world to me and they're always there when I need them and I'm always here when they need me. I would literally be nothing without them. I put a picture of some celebrities that I look up to as my role models. One of them was Demi Lovato because she's been through so much over the past year and she's such a strong person and writes amazing songs. I also put a picture of a couch and a bed to represent my laziness and how I love to sleep. The last picture that I put on my tree that I would like to talk about is a picture of music notes. This shows how I'm dedicated to music. It's there for me when I'm happy and there for me when I'm sad. I find that it helps me express myself better than anything else. These symbols identify who I am and who I'd like to be in the future.

  38. Shannon Zuccarelli (period 6)- On my tree I put symbols like animals, books, and friends to represent who I am as a person. My tree is grey and bare, because it shows that I am a shy person and simple. I included a picture of my friends because throughout my life certain friends come and go but a couple have stuck with my throughout my journey. A image of animals because I've always loved animals and as I've grown up I know more about them and how they are treated. I care about my friends, family, and animals a lot, and so I would do anything I can to help them when I can. I also put a picture of a girl with a camera. This shows that I am a sentimental person, because I like to make memories I can remember years from now. I've always kept little things from my past, like movie tickets, because you may not remember the times you had but when you see the objects you saved you will.

  41. Sydney Mueller (Period 3)- When I first thought of creating my tree I knew what key parts of my personality should be incorporated because that would express what kind of person I am. The “grass” part of my tree was made up of a collage of pictures with my friends and family because I believe that if you don’t have support from the people that you value in life there is no point in having friends or family at all. I choose my friends wisely because I have to see them for who they truly are and get to trust them before I can describe them the right way. People that I have hung out with in the past have been two faced because I only wanted to see the good in them and refused to look at their true selves. I also choose to create my tree trunk out of pencils because the trunk of a tree represents what it’s made out of. A big part of my life is writing and I feel that has shaped me to become who I am when I am with my friends. The characters in certain stories have also shared common characteristics with me and I have written about real events in my life while changing the names. If someone were to read some of my pieces they would be able to see my interests, my lifestyle, and what I think about everyone who is close to me. This part of my tree shows that I am in a good part of my journey because writing has always been there for me and can always help me feel better. My tree is a well organized representation of myself because I planned out where everything went to symbolize how important that part of me is.

There is also a giant bow made out of duck tape on the trunk representing cheerleading. There is also a trampoline sticker on the trunk representing how i am a gymnast. The leaves on the branches of my tree say the words that describe me. My tree represents me in many ways.

On my tree project, I included many symbols that show who I am and my identity. Some of my symbols were a teddy bear, a picture of my friends, camp, a picture of two hands, and a peace sign. The teddy bear is to show that I am a loving person. A picture of my friends laughing is to show that my friends and I have fun together and they make me who I am, I am a very humorous person. I put a picture of camp to symbolize my second home. The picture of two hands is to show that I am a helping hand and that anybody can reach out to me because I am a caring person and the peace sign is to show how I am very easy going and peaceful to be around. Without these symbols my tree wouldn't have a trunk, my tree represents me in many ways.

In my tree i made the leave rainbow because i like all diffrent things and am a bright person. i made checkers on my tree because black and white represent the side of me that people assume i am, and the side i actually am. the black represents the dark person that people assume me to be and the white represents the bright happy person i am in reality. without these effects, my tree would be blanc and nothing. i made my tree fade into white on one side because i dont know all of who i am yet because im still learning about myself and what i plan on doing with my life.

  46. Richard Hoffberg Period 3- The symbols on my tree were athletic, rational, mature, trustworthy, and hardworking. I've been very athletic since around third grade and I love being able to play on a team. I've become a rational and thoughtful person because I'm somewhat quiet and think about my decisions a lot, before doing. For the same reasons as I am rational, I am mature. Additionally my older sisters influenced me to be mature. I wanted the same privilege's as they had and couldn't understand why I didn't have them. I'm a trustworthy person because I respect others privacy and I want a good reputation. Finally I'm a very hard worker at most things that I do. I care for school a lot and want good grades. Another example is that I want to be recognized as a good player in sports so I try my hardest all the time.
