"Poetry is what gets lost in translation" - Robert Frost

This quote means that poetry may be hard to interpret if the poem was translated from another language.

This quote connects to Collin's poem "Introduction to Poetry" because it describes how poetry is hard to interpret

"Poetry is plucking at the heartstrings, and making music with them." -Dennis Gabor
This quote says that poetry is about playing and experimenting with the emotions you have in your heart so that you can have an outcome (the "music").
This quote connects to Collins’ poem ‘Introduction to Poetry’ because they were both about how you have to really go for it to be able to make/enjoy a poem.

"A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. "-Robert Frost
This quote connects to Collins’ poem ‘Introduction to Poetry’ because this quote is saying that when you first learn about poetry a lot of people don't like it and its kind of like the thing you want to avoid being put through (lump in the throat, homesickness, sense of wrong) Collins’ poem was about how poetry is dragged out when you learn it in school because teachers make you over think the poem, and that may have been the reason Robert Frost wrote this negative feeling on poetry.

I believe that this means that Poetry can be so unique that if it is translated it may be translated into a totally different saying or have a totally different meaning. This quote connects to Collins poem ‘Introduction to Poetry’ because the quote and this poem talk about how unique each poem can be and how everybody might get their own different meaning from just one poem.

  5. Richard Hoffberg Period 3- "Poetry is man's rebellion against being what he is."- James Branch Cabell. The meaning of this quote is; it doesn't matter your outward appearance, a poet can write whatever they would like without being judged. Also this connects to "Introduction to Poetry", because both of them can be understood "harshly or "gently".

"Poetry is plucking at the heartstrings, and making music with them." Dennis Gabor

This quote means that poetry has to do with the poets’ emotions. The emotions of the poet are put into a poem that creates a “song” with them. This quote connects to the poem “Introduction to Poetry”, because Billy Collins, the poet wants people to interpret poems more deeply. He wants readers to find the true meaning/emotion behind a poem.

This quote means that if you look inside yourself and base the poem on what you are feeling and what is important to you, then the poem will be a great reflection of you. This quote relates to Billy Collins' poem because he wanted people to understand the meaning of poems, but he also wanted people to enjoy reading them and not have to look too deep inside the poem.

"Poetry is what gets lost in translation."-Robert Frost

This quote means that when readers are reading poems they sometimes missunderstand the meaning of the poem. I think the poem meant that when someone is reading the poem normally people find it meaningless and it gets missunderstood because people dont take the time to figure out the meaning of the poem and what it stands for. This quote connects to Collins poem because he was saying how people take apart poems bit my bit to find meaning out of them and this quote is showing how people dont try to fingure out the meaning and poems are missunderstood to the readers.

"Poetry is what gets lost in translation" - Robert Frost

This quote means that the only person who knows the true meaning of a poem is the author who wrote it, and the people who try and interpret these poems often convey the wrong meaning, and it gets to the point where the proposed meaning gets lost. This poem relates to Billy Collins poem, "Introduction to Poetry." because all readers try to do is interrigate the poem and squeeze every bit of information ou, when in reality the answer was right in the open.

This quote means that the only person that really understands the poem and knows the true meaning is the author. People that are trying to interpret these poems are just creating what t means to them not what the real meaning is. This quote relates to the poem written by "Billy Collins" called introduction to poetry because his poem is saying that people are trying to get the meaning out of the poem when the meaning of the poem is really just what the reader makes it.

This quote is saying that poetry is about experimenting and taking chances with emotions you have in your heart, and making a story or poem with them to express yourself. This quote connects to Collins' poem because both of them show what happens to a poem when you annotate and attack it and find the meaning of each line.

  17. Mike Salvatori (pd. 3) - "Poetry is what gets lost in translation" - Robert Frost. This quote means that everyone tries to take meaning out of the poem that is not even there. Everyone has their own translation of poetry and importance or meaning of the poem. Not everything in a poem has a powerful message, but the poem has a powerful meaning over all. Some people lose the true meaning of the poem by trying to take something out of it that is not there. Others do not get to enjoy the poetry because they are trying to find something that isnt really there. This quote relates to Collins poem because Colin also believed that people never get the real meaning of what the authors are saying. Colin does not like how readers break down poetry to find something that may not be there.

  18. Harrison Steins- period 7- "poetry is what gets lost in translation"- Robert Frost. This quote connects to the poem Introduction by Billy Collins because they both were dealing with how people may interpret poems. Introduction was saying how teachers beat meanings out of poems that may not be intended, but because the teachers over analyze the poems. The quote is saying that the meanings may be different than the author intended, this is because students and readers will look over the poem and interpret it the way they want.

My interpretation of this quote written by Robert Frost, is that poetry begins uncertain, you don't really know what to expect. By the end of the poem though, you miss it and wish it to go on and on because it was excellent. This connects to Billy Collins because he also explained that poetry was difficult to understand at times and there is a meaning to every poem but you're suposed to get the meaning from reading it once or twice, not over analyzing

This quote means that when people think of poems, they interpret them the wrong way. You are supposed to enjoy the poem and not try to figure out what everything means. That is what Billy Collins was trying to say in his poem, "An Introduction to Poetry". He doesn't want anybody over analyzing poems, he just wants the reader to enjoy the poem.

This quote connects to Billy Collins poem, "Introduction to Poetry" because Collins wants the reader to have fun. He wants the reader to "waterski across the surface of a poem". He doesn’t want the reader to overanalyze the poem.

this quote means that you can always add to a poem and that it never really is quite done. The only way it passes as done is when you give up on it or you get it to say all that you wanted it to.
You could also see this quote as having a deeper meaning. Maybe the poet thinks that that they have completed the poem, but the reader can always get a a new message and meaning out of it. there is never a finished meaning. you can always give up on it. thats what it means by abandoning.

“Most people ignore poetry because most poetry ignores people.”- Adrian Mitchell
This quote shows how many people do not take the time to read over poetry and attempt to understand the true meaning. When most people glance over poetry, it just looks like a couple of stanzas or words that have no meaning, but the people who have an interest and are compelled to figure out the intended message take the time to decode poetry and “talk to the text”. This quote relates to the poem “Introduction to Poetry” because Collins indicates how some teachers overanalyze poems and make them dull/boring; but if people don’t even try to understand poems them have little to no meaning.

The meaning of this quote is that poems are difficult to interpret the meaning of because people connect to poems differently. The poet may write the poem hoping that it will be interpreted one way, but a reader may think about it a different way. When something gets lost in translation, the person who speaks thinks his words are being understood the way he wanted them to be and the person who hears them interprets them in a different way. This quote connects to the poem, "Introduction to Poetry" because the poem discusses how people dissect poems to find the true meaning, even though there is no true meaning because everyone interprets poems differently.

Poetry is usually based on events that happened in someones past and those are the invisible keepsakes that only the poet can connect to. The people reading the poem can relate to there own experiences and connect to them in infinite amount of ways. This quote relates to Collins poem 'Introduction to Poetry' because it is saying that many people over analyze a poem to try and figure out the true meaning of it when it is right there in front of them.
